My life in 10 years!

My name is Maren. I graduated from Harestua skole ten years ago and since then a lot have happened.
Today I work as a lawyer and it has been 6 months since I finished my education at the University in Oslo.

When I finished tenth grade I had no idea what kind of job I wanted, so I decided to start high school at Brandbu. At Brandbu I studied something called “studiespesialiserende”. It was three tough years, but today when I look back it was definitely worth it. I graduated from high school with good grades and I applied at the University in Oslo to study to become a lawyer. The study time is 6 years and two of these years are practice. The four years I was in school it was a lot of theory. You have to learn all laws and rules you have to follow as a lawyer. When I had finished these four years, I had to look out for a law firm I wanted to work at during my two years in practice. During my practice I got a look at how you work as a lawyer. I also got to take part in different situations a lawyer needs to take part in. As a lawyer what you do is to set up wills, set up contracts, negotiate in divorces, and that is just some of it.
Knowledge to work with people and to cooperate, have good written and oral skills and being interested in the community you live in are very important when you want to become a lawyer.
In the firm I had my practice I was told that I had to stand up for myself and don’t let anyone step on my toes.

While I was studying I lived in a little apartment with one of my friends from school and even though there were two of us we had to have a part time job next to the studies. I worked at a clothing store called Acne and it was a good paid part time job. I worked at that store Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Today I am working at a law firm called “Adersen’s advokatbyrå” and I like it very well. I have only worked there for 6 months and I have been sitting at an office taking care of some paperwork and some standard things lawyers do. I am looking forward to take part in some of the more interesting cases lawyers with a little bit more experience get to work on.
Since I have started to earn more money I have moved out from my old apartment and now I am living with my boyfriend. He is 27 years old and he works as a real estate agent.
I have got the job of dreams and I am looking forward see where I stand in another ten years. I hope that one day I will have my own law firm.
